“Invest in your skin. It is going to represent you for a very long time.”

Skin is the largest organ of the body. It acts as a physical and chemical barrier between the organs of the body and the outside environment. It is essential to protect this barrier from a lot of skin problems.

People of all ages face the problem of skin ailments. The skin protects our body’s inner organs from harmful chemicals, pollution, bacteria, viruses, and other environmental exposures. Skin exposure causes varied problems from acne breakouts to sunspots of aging.

Therefore, the best ways should be considered to improve skin health and maintain its protective role. Good skincare can help delay natural aging and also prevent skin problems.

CBD

Research shows that CBD helped reduce skin problems and lessen the signs of natural aging. The study, A therapeutic effect of CBD-enriched ointment in inflammatory skin diseases and cutaneous scars, showed that CBD’s topical administration is a safe and effective alternative in improving some skin disorders that are caused due to inflammation.

CBD offers antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. These properties are proven to be beneficial in treating many skin disorders such as inflammation, dryness, etc.

Keratinocytes and CBD effect on them

Endocannabinoid System(ECS) is a biological system responsible for regulating and maintaining various processes in the body, such as immune response, communication between cells, metabolism, etc. ECS consists of endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. CB1 and CB2 are the two types of cannabinoid receptors.

Cannabinoids act on CB1 and CB2 receptors, and promote homeostasis, reduce inflammation and decrease pain sensation.

Keratinocytes contain both of these receptors. Keratinocytes are the primary type of cells present in the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin. CBD attaches to these receptors present in keratinocytes and promotes skin health.

A study published in the Journal of Dermatological Science showed that cannabinoids prevent keratinocyte proliferation and support the role of cannabinoids in the treatment of psoriasis. (a skin disorder that causes skin cells to multiply faster than normal)

Another study called, Cannabidiol induces antioxidant pathways in keratinocytes by targeting BACH1 showed that CBD regulated pathways in keratinocytes involved in keratinocyte differentiation and skin development.

CBD’s usage in Acne treatment, Wrinkles, anti-aging and Sensitive Skin

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles get blocked with oil and dead skin cells. Research has shown that topical CBD administration reduced inflammation and helps soothe skin.

CBD, with its antioxidant properties, helps reduce the visible signs of aging. Antioxidants reduce free radicals present in the cell, thus preventing cell damage. The presence of free radicals fastens up collagen damage, which is responsible for keeping skin firm and strong. Less collagen means the skin becomes thinner and delicate.

Studies have shown that the topical administration of CBD helps avoid wrinkling of skin by stopping the activity of free radicals.

Sensitive skin is associated with inflammation, dry skin, and allergies. CBD has soothing properties that help calm redness, irritation on the skin. It provides skin-calming effects.

Conclusion:

CBD, with its benefits, is proved to be worthy in skincare. Although more research has to be conducted, evidence already shows that CBD helps reduce various skin problems like acne, wrinkles, and aging.

One has to take precautions before using a new product on the skin. As long as CBD is extracted and produced well, it does have benefits to the skin.
